Tescopoly: A bit of a shock?

This is a map showing the number of Tesco Stores in the Uk. It excludes over 580 Tesco 'One Stop' Convienience stores and was made in 2006.
There do seem to be certain cluster spots, as well as some completely bare spots. Any ideas why?

Tesco also have stores in China, Czech Republic, Hungary, Ireland, Japan, Malaysia, Poland, Slovakia, South Korea, Thailand and Turkey.
They have withdrawn from France, Taiwan and America (as they could not compete with Walmart) and have plans to expand into Italy, India and Portugal.

It would seem that Tesco is planning a global takeover?

  1. Definitely, I think that cooperations should feel some sort of guilt or remorse over this ridiculous over saturation of the market, but greed seems to be all that fuels them. Near where I live at how there was a coop and about 2 miles down the road another, but telco have opened to shops literally across the road from them and pretty much shut them down. Seems a shame to see a company (admittedly large still) but with a little more ethical consideration, stamped all over by telco. Josh

  2. The same thing happened where I live, Sainsburys opened opposite a local corner shop which didn't stand much of a chance really.
I think it's quite disturbing that a corporation is legally a person but has no morals/consideration for others.
